If successful the applications will deliver 20% of the recruitment target of 50 new members, which is great in a recession.
Traditionally ESSA has only aimed to grow by 25 companies a year.
"This is a clear indication that exhibitors and customers want ESSA, because of the peace of mind it delivers and members want real value for their fees rather than pay, play and hype," said ESSA chairman Steve Barratt.
Earlier this year the association announced that Aztec Event Services managing director John Robson has been elected vice-chairman and chair-elect.
