EMI, the music giant currently merging with Time Warner, will be

able to market direct to potential customers in future, following a

content deal with BT Cellnet’s Genie internet service.

G-Live, unveiled last night, will offer mobile phone users news and

gossip on their favourite stars and sound clips of forthcoming releases

from EMI artists, including David Bowie, Robbie Williams and the Spice

Girls.

While EMI will build direct relationships with customers, BT Cellnet

gains the opportunity to attract a younger and more cutting edge

audience to the Genie brand. So far, Genie’s services have been confined

to sports, news and share information.
