Disney has named Liverpool-based developer Citrus Suite as the winner of its £80,000 prize to build an app that will make healthy living fun.

The tech start-up was named as the winner at Creative England Live 2016: Catalyse, an event held at Google’s London headquarters.

Having won the £80,000 prize, the developer is now charged with developing a digital prototype that will ultimately encourage families to lead healthier lifestyles.

Disney, which announced the competition last year, made its entire IP available to entrants, meaning they could access the gamut of characters from any Disney property, which includes those from the Star Wars and Marvel franchises.

Citrus Suite beat off competition from digital agencies including Brass and One Two Four.

Disney UK and Creative England selected the entrant which best met a brief to create an app to "promote positive behavioural changes and moderate physical activity targets based on Public Health England guidance, in a simple, fun and engaging way".

Citrus Suite reached the competition’s final stage following an initial grant of £5000, a sum given to each of the three finalists to hone their ideas into proofs of concept.
