Construction flies by in Rio Olympics spot for Honda Ridgeline

RPA taps stop-motion director PES for follow-up to Super Bowl spot

Honda unveiled a Rio Olympics spot for its Ridgeline mid-sized pickup truck on Wednesday, two days before the ad’s television debut on the first day of the 2016 Summer Games. Directed by Academy Award-nominated animator PES, the 60-second spot from Santa Monica agency RPA makes ample use of stop-motion as a fleet of Ridgelines haul in building materials, tools and sod for an array of ambitious construction projects that each take shape in mere seconds. The Ridgeline campaign began this earlier this year with a Super Bowl 50 spot featuring sheep singing along to Queen. In 2015, PES directed Honda’s acclaimed "Paper" spot. Four more stop-motion videos are slated for the middle of the month.
