CHI & Partners heads UK hopefuls for Outdoor Lions on back of beer investment

CHI & Partners has picked up seven of the UK's 37 entries in the Outdoor category of this year's Cannes Lions for its work for Freedom Brewery.

The creative agency took a stake in the craft brewery last December after winning its ad account.

Four of its executions for the brand – Clouds, Exit, Birds and Prison – have been nominated for art direction, while the first three get an additional nod under the drinks category.

CHI is followed among UK shops by Leo Burnett London, which gets five nominations, all for McDonald’s.

There are three each for J Walter Thompson London, McCann London, TBWA\Manchester and Ogilvy & Mather London, and two each for Saatchi & Saatchi London, Publicis London, Adam & Eve/DDB and Y&R London.

Five UK agencies have one nomination each: Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO, Droga5 London, FCB Inferno, MediaCom and Mother.

The 101 nominations from the US are dominated by Ogilvy & Mather Chicago, which gets 21, including 19 for work for Kiwi Quality Shoe Care. There are also nine nominations for R/GA New York, seven for FCB Chicago, and six each for David, Miami, and Leo Burnett Chicago.

But one of the biggest presences on the shortlist is Twitter, which gets 16 nominations for its in-house work. Spotify, another tech brand, is also on the shortlist, with four entries.

São Paulo’s Almap BBDO is the most shortlisted agency in the category overall, with 28 nominations out of a total of 52 for Brazil – the most of any country outside the US. Other high tallies include Ogilvy & Mather Hong Kong, with 14, TBWA\Thailand, with 12, Chile’s Prolam Y&R, with 11, and Y&R South Africa, with ten.
