Capital Gold to promote St George's Day with London events

LONDON - Capital Gold is to broadcast special programming around St George's Day on April 23 as part of a deal with tourist board and the Greater London Authority.

The deal, which will run across all Capital Gold stations and online, will promote England's national day and the EnjoyEngland website through a series of events being held across London in the run up to St George's Day with GLA.

Among the planned events are screenings of 'Monty Python and the Holy Grail' in Trafalgar Square, Shakespeare's birthday celebrations at the Globe Theatre, a St George's festival in Covent Garden, and outdoor screenings of historic silent films of Shakespeare plays.

Capital Gold's drivetime presenter Paul Coyte will broadcast his April 23 show from Trafalgar Square, and the station also plans an on-air campaign for listeners to vote for the top 100 songs by English artists, which will be played on St George's Day.

Grant Brookes, head of marketing and partnerships at Capital Gold, said: "We have created the biggest partnership deal in the history of the station to truly reach a broad cross section of new audiences in order to diversify our appeal and increase brand awareness."

Additional editorial support for the St George's Day broadcasts will be provided by English Heritage,, Warner Breaks, Intempo DAB Digital Radio, Bombardier Beer and Virgin Balloons.
