Campaign Tech Awards: Winner, Tech Pioneer of the Year

Unruly's Simon Gosling has combined his passions for technology, marketing and storytelling to become a pioneer of the future home.

Simon Gosling, Unruly

Futurist Simon Gosling joined Unruly to lead the creation of Home 2020, a 2000-square feet showroom built in the middle of Unruly HQ that’s filled with internet of things (IoT) gadgets. It gives marketers a shot of the future, inspiring them to use a new generation of tech to engage with people in the connected home.

With experience in cinematic creation and VR – creating the very first virtual- and augmented-reality experiences for brands including Ted Baker, Charlotte Tilbury and Google – Gosling has now combined his passions for tech innovation, marketing and storytelling. Home has had over 2,500 visitors since April 2017 and is now one of the agency’s biggest client-magnets, commercially adding over £1 million of additional revenue.

Gosling faced huge challenges while trying to build a fully functioning connected space. He liaised with interior designers and journalists from magazines to understand future trends and used Unruly’s home insights survey to provide key data for advertisers.

Within four months, Gosling not only designed and built the space but created its story, shot a promo video and created the home tour experience. In addition, Gosling has taken Pop-Up Homes to events including CES in Las Vegas, the Cannes Festival of Creativity and Dmexco in Cologne.

Gosling is an integral part of the future-facing Unruly culture with his infectious energy and love for innovation. One of our judges said: "Simon has created something new and engaging, demonstrating clear skill and passion for technology and change."
