More than 30 top brands will advertise on Yahoo’s first free global live stream of a regular season NFL game this Sunday, the Buffalo Bills vs. Jacksonville Jaguars game at London’s Wembley Stadium.
Hoping to reach the international fan base of the fastest-growing sport in the UK, advertisers include half-time sponsor Toyota, pre-game sponsor Dairy Queen, American Express, Bose, Cadillac, Citi, Emirates Airline, KFC, Lincoln, Microsoft, Snickers and Subway.
Like traditional broadcast television, advertisers were offered the option of a US or global ad buy. Video ads will run during commercial breaks, just as they do during televised games.
Advertisers will receive viewership demographic data through Yahoo’s audience insights after the game’s end to assess how best to promote their brands across Yahoo’s websites in the future, the company stated.
While Yahoo! continues to expand its digital streaming presence, CFO Ken Goldman announced earlier this week that the company lost $42 million in Q3 2015 due to costs of producing the comedy "Community," which was cancelled on NBC before its sixth season revival on the digital platform, and original programs "Sin City Saints" and "Other Space." Goldman admitted that the company could not see how to make money over time from the programs.
