Sepp Blatter resigns as head of FIFA amid mounting scandal and sponsor pressure
Football governing body FIFA head Sepp Blatter has resigned, just days after he was re-elected.
According to a report in the Telegraph he has resigned due to a "smoking gun" being held at his head, either by fresh investigations surrounding the myriad of allegations or potential sponsor pressure.
Many FIFA officials are currently under investigation by the FBI and US officials with seven former and current officials already having been arrested.
Sponsors, including VISA, have voiced their concerns but others had stayed quiet. A Marketing reader poll found that 96% believe sponsors should have pulled out following his reinstatement as head of FIFA.

Instagram set for full ad launch
Image-led social network Instagram is readying itself to allow all advertisers to target its users this year. The social network has announced that it will be opening its ads to all brands after a successful testing stage with select advertisers.
As part of the announcement it has revealed increased targeting options to advertisers and a new set of ad formats. New formats will allow for increased interaction, allowing people to buy direct from brands or download an app, according to Forbes.
Instagram, now owned by Facebook, had only alowed brands to advertise as part of a test period prior to this, making the full ad launch the first significant attempt a commercialising the business.
