1. Tell us about Butterfly and what you do.
Butterfly was created because we wanted to do something differently: create tools and processes that would transform how we find insights; develop ideas and build brands with a team that is committed to delivering the absolute best work; and unleashing the potential of not only our clients, but for ourselves too!
To this day it is really important to us that Butterfly retains its entrepreneurial roots, and the whole team plays an active role in helping to grow and evolve our business. The last seven years have been an exceptional growth story for Butterfly, but 2016 was a truly exciting year for us as we grew in both size and scope.
2. What makes Butterfly different?
We believe in the power of emotions and they sit at the heart of how we help transform brands, businesses and the people behind them. Our tools aim to uncover consumers' emotional reactions and identify emotional insights that we use to anchor a product idea, brand proposition or comms campaign on.
What also makes us different is our truly global reach, with half of our projects taking place in some of the most fascinating emerging markets: Brazil, Russia, China and Kenya to name a few. Our team reflect the importance of cultural differences at Butterfly and we are very proud to share almost 20 languages among us.
3. Butterfly has just expanded to open its first office in the US. What took you there?
We saw great traction from the US with incredible and diverse briefs coming from some of the best-known brands. Out of our top 10 biggest projects, half came from the US or were focused on the US market. We saw a clear opportunity to develop stronger relationships with our North American clients and engage with many new ones who could find our strategic and innovation expertise very relevant.
4. As you continue to grow your offer in the US, what talent are you looking for?
We are looking for an inspirational Partner, Head of Strategy & Innovation, who has 12+ years of experience working in an international brand or research agency. Someone who is grounded with great integrity, who can walk the walk and apply his/her entrepreneurial mind to shape, develop and run our NYC office. It is a hybrid role that suits an ambitious individual who wants to lead US and Global projects, develop client relationships and build an ambitious agency.

5. Your London team travels around the world. What will working for your US office be like?
We get to travel far and wide on some of the most fascinating brand challenges. Our US team will lead international projects briefed from US clients with the support from the UK team in delivering those projects.
6. OK, so what are the perks and quirks of working at Butterfly?
The biggest perk for me is our team. Every day, I am surrounded with the most driven, ambitious, fun, supportive and super smart people that inspire and challenge what we do. Between us there is immense creativity and you will always find a unique point of view from whoever you are sitting next to.
I love that we are all adventurous at heart and we get to see and explore the world together. We have been to museums in Mexico, taken shots in Warsaw, worked by the pool in Florida, shared a meal with a Saudi family in Jeddha, been ice fishing in Russia and swam in the Irish sea with our clients!
Learning fishing (or bathing) the Russian way!
My favorite quirk is that you get to immerse yourself into multiple categories and industries: one week you are an expert in cat food and the next you are running a workshop on the future of finance! This trains and develops us to have a diverse set of skills and technical capabilities that you don't get in many other agencies.
7. Can you give us an insight into your culture and a day in the life of a Butterfly?
At Butterfly, a big part of our culture is that we work together collaboratively; we divide and conquer instead of delegating. Collaboration also represents our diversity. We are from everywhere—different countries, different professional backgrounds and different walks of life. We use our experiences and skills to create work like no one else could and ideas that challenge the norm.
We enable each other to be brave, bold and adventurous. We are always pushing and supporting each other to be better than we were yesterday, to deliver imaginative and inspiring work that we can be proud of.
