Somersby Cider – The Somersby Store

A vast queue of excited shoppers is ushered into a store by an army of young, over-enthusiastic members of staff wearing uniform T-shirts.

The assistants then passionately dispel advice among the enthralled throng, as the customers examine the products with all the care of a museum curator looking at a priceless antiquity.

It may sound like a scene from the latest Apple product launch, but it is in fact the first official UK ad campaign from Somersby Cider. Instead of iPhones and Macbooks, the store's tables are filled with actual apples and glasses filled with cider.

Without a rustic orchard or rosy-cheeked farmer in sight, the commercial is a welcome departure from the usual fare served up in cider ads.

Instead, humour is at the core of this ad from the Carlsberg-owned brand – and a huge slice of Apple-baiting.

From the giddy fuss which seemingly accompanies every Apple product launches to the overly stylised adverts, the technology giant is certainly ripe for parody, as seen by recent ads from Google and Samsung.

And Somersby’s debut ad, while not laugh-out-loud hilarious, will certainly elicit some knowing nods and smiles from its online audience, thanks in part to a healthy dose of product puns.
