Black Lives Matter teams with JWT NY to create map of black-owned businesses

Database integrates with Google Maps to plot locations of companies

Black Lives Matter is best known as a protest movement, in opposition to injustices like police brutality and racial profiling. But combating institutional racism also means promoting positive change. The Black Lives Matter Network has partnered with JWT New York to create an online directory of black-owned businesses. BackingBlackBusiness.com is a Google Maps-integrated web tool that pinpoints such companies and allows owners to add themselves to the directory. The beta launched on Monday with 300 businesses in its database, most of which are located in major metropolitan areas.
