Mix Master Mike: joins Xfm to present Saturday evening show

Nando's, the chicken restaurant chain, is to sponsor a new Saturday evening show on Global Radio's Xfm, presented by DJ and Beastie Boys member Mix Master Mike.

He will present a programme between 6pm and 7pm from next Saturday (9 July) and will play a mix of old school and more recent hip-hop, as well referencing his Beastie Boys influence of alternative rock and breaks.

Havas media agency MPG booked the Nando’s sponsorship for an initial 13-week period and the creative for the sponsorship will be by Farm.

Mike’s show completes a new Saturday line-up for Xfm, which starts with comedian Justin Lee Collins from 2pm. Lee Collins is followed by Mix Master Mike’s hour-long show until 7pm, and then music journalist and former BBC Radio 1 DJ Mary Ann Hobbs takes to the air until 10pm.

Andy Ashton, programme director of Xfm, said: "Xfm is all about bringing the ultimate music experiences to our audience and we are all very excited to welcome Mix Master Mike to the Xfm team.

"Alongside Justin Lee Collins and the brand-new show from Mary Anne Hobbs, our Saturday line-up confirms Xfm as a must-listen for everyone who shares our passion for music."

A spokesman for Xfm said Mike’s residency was a permanent addition to the Xfm line up.

Mike said: "Being a part of the Xfm family is going to be amazing.  This is a great opportunity to take my fans on a musical journey through my private library. Get Ready."

In February last year, Global Radio announced RnB star Akon was to join 95.8 Capital FM to present a Saturday evening programme, but he left the station after one show.
