Jeremy Lindley, global design director of Diageo, has said he is "not a fan" of pitching to agencies and believes long-term partnerships are best.

Speaking in front of a 100-strong crowd at Advertising Week Europe (AWE) today (24 March), Lindley said: "At Diageo we harness the best skills internally and externally. We believe in long-term partnerships with agencies because you get a much better result when you work with people over a long period of time.

"The agency gets to know our business and we get to know theirs. They can then invest in the right training and staff. That commitment builds better work than pitching."

He added: "We do it on occasion when we don’t know who to use or if an encumbent isn’t meeting the standards we want. A good partnership is what makes the difference. We bring our agencies together as it is about conversation and collaboration for the better of the brand."

Lindley also talked about the importance of design in experiential.

AWE is taking place in London this week until 27 March.
