Mark Connon, the executive vice president at Millennial Media, has become the chief mobile officer at AOL Platforms & Advertising.

The new global position will see Connon tasked with growing revenue for AOL’s mobile arm as it competes with Facebook and Google. He will report to Tim Armstrong, the chief executive at AOL.

Connon joined AOL through the acquisition of Millennial Media in October last year. He was the chief revenue officer and executive vice president of Nexage, which was acquired by Millennial Media, from 2011.

Armstrong said: "With Verizon’s deep expertise and investment, and bolstered by our recent acquisition of Millennial Media, AOL is uniquely positioned to lead the global mobile revolution.

"Mark’s deep industry expertise will ensure mobile continues to be innovative and at the forefront of AOL’s platforms, products, and media properties."

AOL has also promoted Zac Pinkman, the managing director for EMEA at Millennial Media, to vice president of international mobile.

Pinkman will report to Connon and Philip Duffield, the head of global demand. Pinkman’s remit will be to build and lead AOL’s international mobile strategy.
