The hotel chain helps vacation-goers get cheeky with their OOO messages

Westin Hotels & Resorts is offering travelers a chance to spice up their out-of-office messages with its "You Need Better Vacation Days" digital tool.

BBH New York worked with satirical blog McSweeney’s to create a digital out-of-office generator that lets people pick fun, personal and informative messages to colleagues while they’re away on vacation.

Based on a few answers about the user's pending vacation, the generator comes up with a customized away message that can be broadcast across social networks including Twitter and Facebook.

Westin Hotels & Resorts’ YouTube page includes some examples of quirky, custom messages.

"Americans are taking fewer and fewer vacation days," said Bob Jacobs, vice president, brand management, Westin Hotels & Resorts, "so Westin has doubled its investment in the brand’s resorts campaign this year to remind guests that vacation days are only as good as you make them; and at Westin, guests leave feeling better than they did when they arrived.

"Launching The Out of Office Generator will hopefully put vacation back in the minds of travelers and be responsible for a few laughs along the way."
