Ridley Scott, Liam Neeson team up for LG's first Super Bowl ad

The legendary director (and his son) produce a sleekly futuristic vision to promote the thinnest television yet

Liam Neeson returns to the Super Bowl this year as a mysterious stranger who explains that the future must be protected in LG’s first-ever big game spot, promoting its new LG G6 OLED 4K televisions. 

The 60-second spot, created by filmmakers Ridley and Jake Scott’s film and TV advertising production company RSA Films, stress the futurists capabilities of the TV’s new "picture on glass" technology. OLED sets are the thinnest on the market yet, just an eighth of an inch thick, and are available for about $1799.99. The OLED 4K TVs also won Best TV Product at this year’s Best of CES Awards.

"The objective was to create a world you’ve never seen before or a world that was unique and specific to the OLED," said Jake Scott in a statement. 

The father-and-son Scott team are not new to creating Super Bowl ads. Son Jake directed the popular "Lost Dog" spot for Budweiser by Anomaly, which has been watched on YouTube over 30 million times since its online debut a year ago. Legendary filmmaker RIdley Scott directed the classic Apple Macintosh Super Bowl ad "1984."

Neeson’s first Super Bowl ad, Clash of Clans: "Revenge" by Barton F. Graf, holds the record for most YouTube views of a 2015 Super Bowl ad post-game, with over 100 million hits and counting. 

LG would not disclose when its G6 OLED 4K TV spot would air during the game.
