This copywriter would rather read Nike creator Phil Knight's memoir than negative YouTube comments.

The Recommendation Engine is Campaign US' weekly feature in which we learn about the media young people in the ad industry are currently consuming. This week we get to know Carley Barton, copywriter at New England-based independent agency GYK Antler

What I’m Watching
I can almost always be found watching stand-up comedy. Laughter is my favorite medicine! I just watched Dave Chappelle’s new Netflix specials. I was stoked to see him back up on the big stage laughing at himself and slapping his knee with the mic. Others I love include Louis C.K., Hannibal Buress, Chelsea Peretti, Chris D’Elia and Iliza Shlesinger. Otherwise, I’m a big fan of "This Is Us." We all need a good cry sometimes. In my case, it’s on Tuesday nights.

What I’m Listening To
Springsteen is always on rotation! I’ve seen him live a few times. Live music is my biggest vice. I spend more money on concerts than I do on clothes. My dad took me to my first concert to see Def Leppard and Joan Jett, and from there I was hooked. I saw Bon Iver back in December and a few weeks ago I saw The Head and the Heart. I just bought tickets to see St. Paul and the Broken Bones this summer. Spotify also tells me lately I’m digging Alabama Shakes, Bob Dylan, Sam Cooke, Maggie Rogers and Leon Bridges.

What I’m Reading
In the last year, I’ve worked on a few footwear brands, so I started reading Phil Knight’s "Shoe Dog." There have been a few quotes that have really stuck with me. Interestingly, my favorite has more to do with life than it does shoes. He writes, "The single easiest way to find out how you feel about someone. Say goodbye."

Who I’m following
I have a soft spot for people who aren’t afraid to turn life into art. Life can be messy and complicated, and people who use that to fuel their creative work really speak to me. I’m a big @timothygoodman fan. He makes human emotion look super fly, without compromising the integrity of his message. His design style seems purposefully crowded and overwhelming, in a way that emotions actually can be.

I’m also obsessed with @themanhome, which is an online interior design service (for men…whoops) and @mandustrial_revolution. I know the bio says, "Helping men revolutionize living spaces," but I have a design crush on everything they do. I’ve always gravitated toward more industrial and rustic spaces. I’m naturally drawn to wood, iron and leather chairs. I grew up in a log cabin. That might have something to do with it.

What I’m ignoring
People who don’t inspire me to be better.

And the YouTube comments section. Whatever you do, don’t look down.
