The Recommendation Engine is Campaign US' weekly feature in which we learn about the media young people in the ad industry are currently consuming. This week, we get to know Kenny Reissig, agency liaison at Los Angeles-based agency Arcana Academy.
What I’m watching
Most weeknights I go to bed early but I don’t sleep. I stay up all night watching Netflix and chilling. I binge-watch classics like "Breaking Bad," "The Walking Dead" and "Stranger Things." just stumbled on "Black Mirror" and it might be my favorite show of all time. It’s a series of futuristic mini dramas that mess with your perception of what reality is. I highly recommend it. Outside of Netflix, I’ll indulge in YouTube; controversial mini documentaries or opinion pieces mostly. Vice News’ guerrilla journalism is amazing and delivers a glimpse into the lives of people you’d most likely never get to experience in one lifetime. This eye opening perception is captivating and inspiring.
What I’m listening to
Spotify is a great way to explore new music, seeing as everything on the radio is overplayed. It’s a simple solution to finding the gold in a world of artists. I will always love my classics: Michael Jackson, Beyoncé, Amy Winehouse, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Stones, Tribal Seeds and Biggie Smalls. The list goes on, but as you can probably tell, I don’t discriminate...except for Country.
What I’m reading
I always take my favorite Buddhist book with me, but am only able to open it when my boyfriend plays beach volleyball; I rarely get quiet solitude. Unfortunately, the list of books I want to read far exceeds the reality of what I’ll be able to accomplish at this point in my life. I’ll read when I’m retired. One book I’m interested in in particular, "The Secret Teachings of All Ages" by Manly P. Hall, gives the reader a wealth of esoteric knowledge which was shared to me by a coworker. If I can find the time, it will be my first choice. I like my readings to be informative and mind opening.
Who I’m following
On Instagram, I follow my friends, my favorite musicians, artists, news hosts, politicians, charities, museums, mantra guides, foodies, and explorers. I have a background in fashion and am not as active as I used to be on the latest trends and collections but I still follow the favorites: Marchesa, Pucci, Cavalli, and Chanel. To be honest I’m not a very good millennial in this sense as I’ll peruse Instagram when I’m bored but that about exceeds my mark in the age of social media. I find myself to be much happier when I’m not focused on following what other people are doing and instead spend time doing the things that make me happy.
Who I’m ignoring
Anyone in my DM.
