Fairy-tale visuals clash with harsh realities in UNICEF ad

"Unfairy Tale"' by 180LA portrays a young Syrian girl's harrowing voyage across the sea

LONDON — A Syrian girl's journey across the Mediterranean has been turned into an animated tale and shown at the Supporting Syria & the Region conference here Thursday. 180 Los Angeles created the film, in which seven-year-old Malak recounts her dangerous journey. The spot is one of a handful of UNICEF’s "unfairy tales," which contrast cute visuals with the harsh realities of some children’s lives. The films are part of Unicef’s #NoLostGeneration campaign marking five years of the Syrian conflict. Visual direction was by Adhemas Batista and André Holzmeister through House of Colors.
