Google, Kleenex and Shell scored with consumers through a liberal use of video

The new Google phone, "Pixel," was the tech story of the week, so it’s not surprising that a video the company shared on Facebook tops Unmetric’s list of brands that saw the most engagement on social media. Video posts in general were popular last week. Kleenex used video on Facebook to relate a real story of a caring friendship, Shell put forth its energy innovations in an ad styled like a music video and Air New Zealand spoke frankly to its dad travelers.

Unmetric, a social-media intelligence firm, uses an analytics platform to track brands with the highest amount of engagement for posts on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Unmetric’s engagement score rates each post from 0 to 1,000, depending on the amount of user interactions.

Here are the posts that reached an engagement score of 900-1,000:

Google

On October 4, Google introduced "Pixel," a smartphone for the Googler in all of us. On Facebook, Google posted a simple video that highlights some of the features of the phone, such as its ability to charge up to seven hours in 15 minutes and its endless storage for photos and videos. The post received 51,000 reactions, 45,351 shares and 11,000 comments. The tech giant also paired with Droga 5 to show off the new phone in a one-minute spot

Kleenex

As part of the brand’s "Kleenex Cares" campaign, this video posted to Facebook shares the story of Yar and Kyle, the first duo to run a marathon. Yar pushed Kyle in his wheelchair all the way to the finish line. This post got 4.8 million views, 70,000 reactions, 8,531 shares and 1,000 comments.

Shell

Artists Jennifer Hudson, Pixie Lott and Luan Santana perform American Author’s "Best Day of My Life" song in Shell’s colorful new three-minute spot. The ad aims to highlight the brand’s work with seven energy innovations, including insolar projects and gravity lights. This tweet generated 9,819 likes and 2,918 retweets.

Air New Zealand

The "How to Dad" guy, a Kiwi with a great deadpan delivery, demonstrates different fathering-while-flying approaches in this 2-minute video. There’s the Early Dad, who gets to the airport 10 hours early; the Sharing is Caring Dad, who hands his kid off to fellow travelers so he can relax; and, of course, the Nervous Dad. The post, which got 3,078 likes and 2,030 retweets, asks viewers to tag a dad who can relate.
