Brands celebrate subculture "holiday" in glib tweets and videos

While its origins are hazy, the date 4/20 is redolent with significance for marijuana enthusiasts. In honor of April 20, 2015, brands across the web burned one with digital tidbits.

In 1984, "Blade Runner" director Ridley Scott created an advertisement for Apple's Macintosh computer line that became a cultural touchstone. The ad featured a woman running through an Orwellian dystopic landscape challenging "Big Blue"/Big Brother.

Fast forward to 2015, and Vermont ice cream brand Ben & Jerry's lampoons the ad in a twist for the subculture of cannabis consumers. Appropriately enough, Ben and Jerry's ad is about ice cream burritos.

The creamery isn't the only one catching the 4/20 buzz as other brands got high on the referential humor.
