NEW YORK — Bartle Bogle Hegarty New York on Friday announced two promotions and a departure at the top of its org chart.
Effective Feb. 1, CCO John Patroulis will move into the newly created role of creative chairman as Chairman Emma Cookson prepares to leave the company Feb 20.
BBH NY Executive Creative Director Ari Weiss will move into the CCO spot. BBH said there were no plans to replace Cookson as chairman.
According to the company, the moves reflect a 50% increase in the New York office’s 2014 revenue under Patroulis’ stewardship and "an effort to reshape BBH NY’s top-level structure so it emphasized a continued focus on creating world-renowned creative work."
The reorg creates a core leadership team that comprises Patroulis, Weiss, CSO Sarah Watson and North American CEO Pat Lafferty. They will oversee an office that grew by 60 people in 2014 (raising the total headcount to about 150) and added PR, digital analytics and back-end solutions to its agency offerings.
The performance marks a comeback after weak financial performance in 2012 prompted the departure of BBH NY CEO Greg Andersen. North American CEO Lafferty came onboard in 2013.
Patroulis has been with the company nearly four years; his new role will manage the CCO, the Head of Integrated Production and Technology, BBH’s internal PR group, and "all future creative capability investment." Weiss, who will continue to report directly to Patroulis, is also a four-year BBH veteran.
Outgoing Chairman Cookson — whose tenure with BBH spans 20 years — is pursuing new opportunities, according to the company. In a statement, BBH founder Sir Nigel Bogle said, "In BBH's 33-year history Emma stands as one of the agency's all-time most talented and influential planners. She has been the architect of a wide range of BBH's best work as well as being one of the pioneers in establishing BBH in America, having moved to New York in 1999 initially to lead the Planning discipline and latterly as CEO and then Chairman. We will miss her and wish her well in whatever path she takes next."
BBH is owned by Publicis Groupe, which bought out Bogle and co-founder John Hegarty in July 2012.
